No matter where in the world you’re living, Nikki would appreciate your support on Election Day. If you’re a Kiwi and you’ve been home recently, there’s a good chance you’re eligible to vote.
We’ve summarised the criteria below, so see if you’re eligible. Every vote counts.
Who can vote?
Any New Zealand citizen can vote from overseas if they are enrolled to vote and they have been in New Zealand in the last three years. Any New Zealand resident can vote from overseas if they are enrolled to vote and they have been in New Zealand in the last 12 months.
The easiest way to enrol to vote is online.
Go to: http://www.elections.org.nz/enrolment/how_to_enrol_to_vote.html
You can also pick up an enrolment form from any New Zealand domestic post and post it back to New Zealand.
How do I vote from overseas?
Voting papers are not automatically sent to voters who are overseas. You cannot vote by email or return your voting papers electronically. There are four options for overseas voters:
- You can cast an advance vote in person if you if you will be in New Zealand in the two and a half weeks before the election
- If you are on the published roll, you will be able to download voting papers before the election.
- You can apply to have voting papers posted to you.
- You can vote in person at a number of overseas posts, including diplomatic posts.
You may return your ballot papers by either delivering them to an overseas post designated as a polling place, posting them to the Chief Electoral Officer, or faxing them back to the Chief Electoral Officer.
For any questions on overseas voting, you can email the Chief Electoral Office at overseas@elections.org.nz, or call +64 4 495 0030
